Why Remote Cameras Rock
This one’s quick.
I just saw this image and story(nppa.org) over at the National Press Photographers association website of the President Obama’s Inauguration. While the story is wroth reading, though it doesn’t give many details about anything really, what’s I think is probably most important to take away from this is the use of remotes to get images from angles and positions you can’t be. How does this help in everyday photography, probably not all that much, but one thing I do now is constantly keep my eye out for a location that would be suitable for remotes.
The idea of embedding the camera in a pelican case isn’t bad either. The black case is unabtrusitve, rugged, and will muffle quite a bit of the shutter sound. A similar setup would probably work well in any environment where positioning a quite camera inobtrusively is desired. Doublely so if the lens is contained inside the case, resulting in a water proof shock resistant enclosure to protect the camera. Actually with the right case size and internal layout, you could probably carry a mini-tripod/stand in the case for easy setup, making it pretty much self contained as well.
